Why Healthcare Professionals Choose InSync for OET Preparation
There is no shortage of OET coaching institutes in India. A quick search will show you dozens of options — some cheap, some flashy, most making the same promises. So why do nurses and doctors from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and even from the Gulf consistently come back to InSync Learning and Development?
When you study with an institute that has a direct relationship with the exam board, you are preparing with insider knowledge – not guesswork. Your trainer knows exactly what OET examiners look for in a Writing letter. Your speaking coach understands the precise criteria used to assess patient communication. That gap between generic coaching and PPP-level preparation is exactly why InSync Learning and Developmen pass rate stands at 70% — while the national average for Indian candidates sits much lower.

I overcame my fear of speaking after joining Insync and learned effective tips and strategies for all IELTS modules. They provide good resources through Google Classroom, allowing us to practice alongside the lessons. Students with weak grammar should also work on it individually, though resources are given. Shane values honesty over sugar coating and gives straightforward feedback, which helps us avoid mistakes later. Insync is a good place to prepare for IELTS, but scores depend about 50% on personal practice. Skill development takes time, and success comes from applying his tips consistently. Shane is friendly and approachable, and he never hesitates to correct even the smallest or silliest doubt. In his class, no one feels awkward or judged for asking questions or making mistakes, which creates a very comfortable learning environment.

The classes were very interactive and engaging. Sir explained everything clearly and also encouraged us to ask questions and participate so the classes never felt boring or rushed in any way. I also received practical and honest feedback that focused on improvement rather than encouragement The the 4 modules were covered in a structured manner and the tips given were very useful, especially for writing and speaking. I particularly enjoyed the speaking sessions as it was purely interactive. Furthermore, the study material and resources provided were also useful and helped me practice and apply the tips given for different types of questions effectively. Overall, the classes were helpful and well-organised, and gave me the confidence to attempt the IELTS.

Our Shane sir explained OET format and criteria very clearly, which helped me understand what examiners actually expect. Classes were well-structured and focused on all four modules. Writing correction and feedback were detailed and practical, helping me reduce common mistakes. Speaking sessions were interactive and confidence-boosting, especially role-play practice. Tips and strategies shared were exam-oriented and easy to apply. Regular practice tests helped me manage time and exam pressure. The trainer was approachable, supportive, and motivating, especially during stressful phases. Guidance helped me improve not just my score but also my professional communication skills. Overall, the coaching played a significant role in clearing my OET and gaining confidence. Forever grateful to insync.

I would like to share my experience of taking IELTS coaching at Insync. First of all, if you’re looking for IELTS coaching, you can choose Insync without a second thought because Shane Sir’s teaching style is truly captivating. His methods are not like the conventional ones you find on YouTube or other paid courses, where they just give you a few tips and conduct endless mock tests, which, in my opinion, isn’t very effective. Instead, Shane Sir dives deep into every module of the IELTS exam and conducts the classes in an interactive way, encouraging collaboration among students. This approach helps you understand each concept in detail and makes learning genuinely enjoyable. Apart from IELTS preparation, Insync also helped me improve my socializing skills and confidence. I scored an overall band score of 7.5. Thank you so much, Shane Sir.

I highly recommend Mr Shane Jordan, Sir, because of his teaching techniques. This is not only for IELTS tips and tricks course, besides he teaches improving your mental ability to face pressurized exam situation to ease. Mr Shane pinpoints your blockages for exam perspective, advises you about improvements and individual attention in his classroom. There is an opportunity to improve your reasoning power, comprehensive skills, a clear understanding of Cambridge's evaluation pattern etc. I reckon a guarantee of the desired band score is achievable if you follow his guidelines.

I had a really good experience preparing for my IELTS exam at Insyne Institute. Mr. Shane Jordan made the learning process simple and effective. His classes are really enjoyable — not like the usual classes filled with boring lectures. Instead, they are highly interactive and student-focused. He especially made the speaking module engaging and encouraging. Rather than just giving lectures, he made students connect and speak with each other, which really helped me overcome my fear of talking to strangers. In just one month, he helped us become more confident. I’d definitely recommend Insyne Institute!

How InSync Prepares You for All Four OET Sub-Tests
Each sub-test requires a completely different skill set. Here's exactly how InSync trains you for each one.
OET Listening Preparation
3 parts · Approx. 40 minutes · Multiple choice, short answer, note completionOET Listening tests your ability to extract and interpret information from healthcare-related audio recordings. Part A involves completing consultation notes from a patient-health professional interaction. Part B consists of six short extracts from workplace situations. Part C features two recorded health professional interviews on a clinical topic.
The challenge most Indian candidates face in OET Listening is not language — it's accent familiarity and the speed at which medical information is delivered. The recordings use authentic Australian, British, and occasionally American English, which can feel unfamiliar at first. InSync's preparation focuses heavily on developing active listening skills for medical content: identifying the key clinical information in a conversation, distinguishing between what a patient says and what it clinically implies, and completing note templates accurately under time pressure.
Strategic training also covers the specific trap patterns OET Listening sets — distractors that sound plausible but contain subtle inaccuracies. Over 35 practice tests give you the repetitions needed to recognise these patterns and respond confidently on exam day.
- All three part types covered with dedicated technique sessions
- Accent familiarity training with UK and Australian medical English
- Note completion and short-answer strategies with timed practice
- Listening to multiple recordings with detailed answer explanations
OET Reading Preparation
3 parts · 60 minutes · Matching, sentence completion, multiple choiceOET Reading uses authentic healthcare texts — clinical guidelines, policy documents, medical articles, and patient information sheets. It tests your ability to read quickly and purposefully: finding specific information, understanding the main argument of a passage, and making inferences from complex medical writing.
Part A of OET Reading is a research skill test — four short texts on a related theme, with 20 questions requiring fast, precise scanning. This is where time management is critical. Most candidates who struggle with Reading don't struggle because of vocabulary — they struggle because they read too slowly and run out of time before Part C, which carries the highest marks.
InSync's Reading preparation teaches skimming and scanning techniques adapted specifically to medical texts — not generic speed-reading advice, but targeted strategies for the structures and vocabulary that appear in healthcare documents. You'll also develop the clinical vocabulary range needed to process texts confidently without re-reading every sentence.
- Time-management strategies for all three parts
- Medical vocabulary development for clinical texts
- Inference and detail-identification techniques
- Authentic OET-style text practice with simulated answer keys
OET Writing Preparation
1 task · 45 minutes · Referral or discharge letter · Most candidates' biggest challengeOET Writing is both the most predictable and the most demanding sub-test. You're given a set of case notes and asked to write a letter — typically a referral letter or discharge summary — to another healthcare professional. The format is always the same. The challenge is in the execution.
What OET examiners assess goes far beyond grammar. They look at purpose and suitability (is the information relevant and appropriately selected from the notes?), content (accuracy and completeness), conciseness and clarity (no padding, no unnecessary repetition), genre and style (professional medical letter register), and language (grammar, vocabulary, spelling).
The most common reason InSync students come to us after failing OET Writing elsewhere is not bad English — it is poor selection of information from the case notes, or writing in an inappropriate register. Many candidates either include too much irrelevant detail or omit critical clinical information that the receiving professional would need to act on.
InSync's 8 writing assignments with personalised correction from Shane Jordan address this directly. Each submission comes back with specific comments on every criterion OET examiners use, a supposed grade, and a Grade A sample letter so you can compare your writing to the standard you're aiming for. This level of expert feedback, repeated eight times across your preparation period, builds the kind of letter-writing instinct that can't come from a book alone.
- Case note analysis and information selection strategies
- Referral and discharge letter format and register
- 8 personally corrected writing assignments with supposed grades
- Writing Masterclass sessions by Alecia Banfield (Germany)
- Grade A model letters for direct comparison
OET Speaking Preparation
2 role-plays · Approx. 20 minutes · Assessed by trained OET assessorsOET Speaking involves two role-plays with a trained interlocutor who plays the role of a patient or carer. You play yourself — a healthcare professional managing a clinical scenario. The role-plays are profession-specific: nurses do nursing scenarios, doctors do medical scenarios.
The five criteria examiners assess are: linguistic criteria (intelligibility, fluency, appropriateness of language, resources of grammar and expression) and clinical communication criteria (relationship building, understanding and incorporating the patient's perspective, providing structure, information gathering, and information giving). Notice that three of the five criteria are about clinical communication — not just English.
This is why many experienced nurses and doctors who speak English well still struggle with OET Speaking. They're conditioned to give information efficiently — but OET assesses whether you explore the patient's concerns, acknowledge emotions, and build rapport during a clinical interaction. That's a different skill set from clinical efficiency, and it requires deliberate practice with expert feedback.
InSync's speaking preparation runs through weekly live speaking fluency classes (free, 5 days a week), 6 assessed speaking assignments with detailed expert feedback, and dedicated role-play practice sessions with feedback mapped to OET's official assessment criteria. By the time you sit the exam, the format — and the communication approach it demands — will feel natural rather than performed.
- OET clinical communication criteria — taught and practised in depth
- 6 assessed speaking assignments with expert feedback
- Free speaking fluency classes — 5 days/week
- Role-play technique for each scenario type
- Patient-centred communication strategies for OET criteria
How 35 Mock Tests Change Your OET Performance
There's a reason professional athletes train many times more hours than they compete.Simulation builds the kind of automatic competency that holds up under pressure. OET is no different. Knowing the strategies is the beginning — executing them accurately in 45 minutes on exam day is the actual challenge.
InSync provides 35 mock test papers across all four sub-tests and 3 complete full-length online mock tests timed to exact OET conditions. This is far beyond the 1–2 practice tests most OET institutes offer. The quantity matters because patterns only become instinctive through repetition — and one or two run-throughs before exam day is not enough exposure to embed strategy under pressure.
More importantly, InSync's mock tests are reviewed. You don't just complete a paper and check your own answers. Results are discussed in class, answer patterns are analysed, and common errors across the student group are addressed directly in subsequent sessions. When you see where other students go wrong, you calibrate your own approach — a benefit that self-study simply cannot replicate.
What Mock Tests Achieve at InSync:
- Exam format becomes instinctive — no surprises on test day
- Time management skills are built through timed repetition
- Weak sub-tests are identified early and addressed with targeted practice
- Confidence increases with each completed test — reducing exam anxiety
- Common trap patterns become recognisable across Listening and Reading
- Writing standard is calibrated against supposed grades and Grade A samples
A Realistic OET Study Plan for Working Healthcare Professionals
A 12-week framework built around clinical work schedules. Most OET guides suggest an idealised study schedule that ignores the reality that most candidates have full-time clinical jobs, night shifts, family responsibilities, and variable energy levels. Here's a realistic 12-week framework that InSync builds your preparation around.
| PERIOD | FOCUS AREAS | INSYNC RESOURCES USED |
|---|---|---|
| Weeks 1–2 | OET format familiarisation. Diagnostic assessment of all four sub-tests. Identify your strongest and weakest areas. Grammar baseline check. | Live lessons (SLC), free grammar classes, diagnostic mock test, videos |
| Weeks 3–5 | Listening technique for all three parts. Reading strategies for Parts A, B, C. First two writing assignments submitted. Grammar focused sessions. | Live lessons, mock tests 1–10, writing assignments 1–2 with feedback, grammar classes |
| Weeks 6–8 | OET Writing — case note analysis, letter structure, register. Speaking role-play technique. Clinical communication criteria focus. | Writing assignments 3–5, speaking assignments 1–3, Speaking fluency classes, live lessons |
| Weeks 9–11 | Intensive mock test practice under timed conditions. Review of all four sub-tests. Final writing assignments. Full mock tests 1 and 2. | Mock tests 11–30, writing assignments 6–8, speaking assignments 4–6, full online mock tests |
| Week 12 | Consolidation and confidence-building. Final full mock test. Exam logistics and strategy review. Speaking confidence sessions. | Full online mock test 3, final review classes, speaking fluency sessions, recorded library |
This plan assumes 1.5–2 hours of daily study. For working professionals, weekend batches and flexible timing allow you to stretch this across 14–16 weeks without sacrificing quality. InSync's unlimited class access means you're never rushed to a deadline.
The Challenges Real Students Face — And How InSync Addresses Them
Real Student ExperiencesBehind every OET registration is a personal story — a career goal, a family hoping for a better life abroad, years of hard work in clinical practice. Understanding the real pressures InSync students face has shaped the way every part of this programme is designed.
"I Can't Study After a 12-Hour Shift"
Nursing shifts don't leave much energy for study. InSync's recorded lesson library means you're never forced to attend live when you're exhausted. Watch sessions when you have energy. Attend live when you can. The curriculum accommodates the reality of clinical work — it doesn't ignore it.
"I Have a Visa Deadline. Can I Fast-Track?"
InSync offers fast-track and intensive course options for candidates with tight timelines. If your OET exam is six or eight weeks away, the curriculum is adjusted accordingly — prioritising your weakest areas and maximising class and feedback frequency within your available time.
"I'm in Dubai. Can I Really Study with InSync?"
Yes — and many do. InSync's online students include nurses and doctors working in the UAE, UK, and across the Middle East who prepare for OET through live online classes, with the same curriculum and feedback as Chennai-based students. Time zones are accommodated across multiple batch options.
"Will I Have to Pay Again If I Don't Pass?"
Not for your classes. The InSync Progress Promise means Reach OET B Nursing students can continue attending live classes after their subscription period ends at no additional cost. The only payment you'll need to make is to OET for your next exam sitting — which InSync's additional preparation is designed to make unnecessary.
"I Failed OET Twice. I Don't Know What I'm Doing Wrong."
This is the most common profile of a repeat test-taker who joins InSync. The answer is almost always the same: they've been preparing without expert feedback that correctly identifies where their current standard sits against OET criteria. Within the first few weeks of InSync's writing correction programme, most repeat candidates discover they've had a specific, fixable gap — not a general English problem.
"I Don't Know If I'm Closer to C+ or B"
This uncertainty is common — and dangerous. Without a clear picture of where you stand, you can't decide when you're ready to book your exam. InSync's continuous progress checks, mock tests, and supposed grades on writing assignments give you an honest, ongoing assessment of your actual level — not an optimistic estimate.
GRAMMAR & FLUENCY
The Hidden Importance of Grammar & Speaking Fluency for OETGrammar and speaking fluency are the foundations beneath every OET grade — and they're the areas most candidates assume they don't need to work on because "I use English every day at work."
Clinical English used at work is typically simplified, abbreviated, and context-dependent. OET Writing requires complete, formal, grammatically accurate sentences with correct tense sequencing, appropriate cohesive devices, and professional register. The structures that work perfectly well in verbal handovers — fragments, shorthand, implicit references — fail in a formal OET letter.
Speaking fluency, separately, is not about speaking quickly. OET assesses fluency as the ease and naturalness of your speech — whether ideas connect naturally, whether you pause to search for words less frequently, whether your communication flows without disruption. A nurse who speaks English confidently in general conversation can still sound stilted in an OET role-play if they're simultaneously managing the clinical content, the communication criteria, and the time pressure for the first time.
InSync's free grammar classes (5 days/week) and free speaking fluency classes (5 days/week) are not supplementary extras. They are the infrastructure that makes the rest of the preparation effective. Students who attend consistently report that their writing accuracy improves from early submissions to later ones — not because they've become better at English in general, but because they've internalised the specific grammatical structures that OET Writing requires repeatedly.

INSYNC Progress Promise →Complete OET Exam Overview — What You Actually Need to Know
The Occupational English Test (OET) measures English language proficiency for healthcare professionals across 12 registered health professions — nursing, medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, pharmacy, optometry, radiography, speech pathology, podiatry, osteopathy, veterinary science, and occupational therapy. Unlike general English tests, every single task in OET is set within a healthcare context.
The test has four sub-tests: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. You receive a separate grade for each sub-test, ranging from A (highest) to E (lowest). Most regulatory bodies — including the NMC (UK), GMC (UK), AHPRA (Australia), and DHA (Dubai) — require Grade B in all four sub-tests.
OET Grading Scale
Grades run from A (highest) → B → C+ → C → D → E (lowest). Grade B is the minimum required by most international registration bodies. Each grade corresponds to a numerical score range, with Grade B starting at 350 on a 500-point scale.
OET is computer-delivered at authorised test centres. It can also be taken at home (OET@Home) with appropriate supervision. Results are typically available within 16 business days of your test date. Scores are valid for two years from the date of the test.
One of the biggest misconceptions about OET is that it's "easier than IELTS." It's not easier — it's different. OET is more relevant and more predictable for healthcare professionals because the content maps to what you already know. But the writing and speaking tasks have highly specific format requirements that catch many unprepared candidates off guard. This is precisely why structured preparation with a qualified OET trainer makes such a measurable difference.
The Most Common OET Mistakes That Cost Candidates Their Grade B
Twenty-four years of teaching OET makes certain patterns unmistakable. These are the mistakes that separate candidates who pass in their first attempt from those who sit the exam three or four times without reaching Grade B.
Copying Case Notes Verbatim into the Writing Task
OET examiners heavily penalise lifting language directly from the case notes. Your letter must demonstrate that you've processed the information and expressed it in appropriate professional English. Word-for-word copying — even if grammatically correct — scores poorly on the language criteria.
Including Every Detail from the Case Notes
Case notes contain far more information than belongs in a professional letter. Many candidates include everything, producing a cluttered, unfocused letter that fails the 'conciseness and clarity' criterion. Selecting the right information for the specific purpose and recipient of the letter is a skill that requires deliberate training.
Speaking Too Formally or Too Informally in Role-Plays
OET Speaking assesses "appropriateness of language" — which means the register must match the scenario. Many candidates speak to a distressed patient the same way they would write clinical notes. Others become overly casual. Both lose marks on the linguistic criteria.
Ignoring Patient Concerns During Role-Plays
The OET speaking criteria specifically assess whether you explore and acknowledge the patient's perspective and emotional state. Many candidates deliver medically accurate information but never ask what the patient is worried about, what they understand, or how they feel. This consistently reduces scores on clinical communication criteria.
Spending Too Long on Part A of Reading
Part A of OET Reading has 20 questions from four short texts. It's tempting to be thorough. But the clock is your biggest obstacle in Reading, and sacrificing time here leaves less time for Part C — which typically carries more weight. Time allocation strategy across the three parts is a skill many self-prepared candidates never develop.
Underestimating Grammar in Writing and Speaking
A common misconception is that OET doesn't assess grammar rigorously because it's a professional test. It does. Grammar errors in your writing letter directly impact the language score, and grammatical inaccuracy during speaking reduces intelligibility ratings. InSync's free weekly grammar classes exist precisely because this silent drag on marks affects more candidates than any other single factor.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to the most common questions about OET preparation and our courses.
Is 1 Month Enough for OET?
What Are OET Classes?
Is OET Valid for 2 Years?
Is OET Cheaper Than IELTS?
OET exam fees are usually higher than IELTS, but many healthcare professionals still prefer OET because it is specifically designed for medical and healthcare environments. The exam focuses on clinical communication, patient interaction, and healthcare-related scenarios, making it more relevant for nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and allied healthcare professionals. Many candidates find OET easier to relate to because the content reflects real workplace situations, which can improve confidence and increase the chances of achieving the required score more effectively.
Which Online OET Preparation Providers Offer Live Interactive Sessions?
Where Can I Find Highly-Rated OET Training Centers in South India?
Can I attend InSync OET classes online from outside Chennai?
Yes. InSync’s online live classes are attended by students from across India, the Middle East, UK, and beyond. The experience mirrors the offline classroom — live interaction, real-time feedback, the same curriculum and expert team. Online students from Kerala, Karnataka, UAE, and the UK have all achieved Grade B through InSync’s online programme. The course fee for online is ₹18,000 + GST.
What is the InSync Progress Promise?
The InSync Progress Promise is a 100% progress guarantee. Any subscriber to the Reach OET B Nursing course can continue attending live classes even after their subscription period has expired — at zero additional cost — until they achieve OET success. Additionally, if you attend consistently and do not show the expected improvement, InSync offers a full refund. This is the most comprehensive student protection offered by any OET institute in India.
Who is Shane Jordan and why is his background important for OET coaching?
Shane Jordan is India’s 1st and only OET Teacher Trainer — a qualification certified by Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment, the organisation that owns and runs the OET exam. He holds Cambridge CELTA and DELTA qualifications, has 24 years of teaching experience, and has assessed over 35,000 candidates as a British Council IELTS Examiner. His work has been recognised by Health Education England and OET Australia for producing the world’s highest OET pass rate of 70%. His trainer certification means he doesn’t just teach OET — he was trained by the OET authority itself to train other OET teachers.
What does InSync's writing correction service involve?
InSync includes 8 full writing assignments per Reach OET B course. Each writing submission is reviewed by Shane Jordan personally with: detailed commentary mapped to each OET assessment criterion (not just general observations), a supposed grade (what an OET examiner would actually award you), specific error identification with corrections, and a Grade A sample letter for direct comparison. This feedback loop across 8 submissions builds the letter-writing precision and examiner-awareness that produces Grade B results.
Is there a free trial before I enrol?
Yes. InSync offers a 5-day free trial — you attend full live classes for five consecutive days, completely free, before deciding to enrol. This is not a brief introductory session or a demo class. It’s five full days of the actual curriculum. You can also book a free 30-minute level-check call with Shane Jordan to get your current OET level assessed and a personalised study plan — with no obligation to enrol.
What is the cost of OET coaching at InSync?
What is the difference between OET and IELTS for healthcare professionals?
The core difference is context. OET uses exclusively healthcare scenarios — writing referral letters, conducting patient role-plays, reading medical literature. IELTS uses general and academic content unrelated to medicine. For healthcare professionals, OET’s context reduces the cognitive load of unfamiliar topics and allows clinical knowledge to be an asset. Both are accepted by NMC and AHPRA. OET also does not require the same high overall band score as IELTS (7.5 or above in all sections) — Grade B in OET is widely considered more achievable for healthcare professionals who prepare correctly.
Does InSync offer one-on-one private OET coaching?
Yes. Private 1-on-1 classes with expert trainers are available for candidates who prefer fully personalised attention, specific scheduling flexibility, or intensive short-duration preparation before a close exam date. Contact InSync directly to enquire about private class availability and pricing.
Do I need to be a nurse or doctor specifically to join InSync's OET programme?
InSync’s primary programmes are designed for the Nursing and Medicine sub-tests — which cover the two largest candidate groups. If you are a dentist, pharmacist, physiotherapist, or another registered allied health professional needing OET preparation, contact InSync to discuss whether the current programme is suitable or whether a tailored option is available.
