No third-party list of Indian OET centres can tell you whether a seat exists on your date. OET runs a live venue search instead of a published directory, and what it returns changes with your delivery mode, your profession and the week you ask. This page explains how the search behaves, what decides availability, and what a venue day in India actually involves, so you can pick a venue rather than a list entry.

OET runs a live venue search rather than a published list of Indian centres

Every OET test venue in India is published in one place only, and it is not a list. The starting point is OET’s book a test page, where you enter your location and the search returns the venues nearest you for the mode and date you pick. That result set is generated at the moment you ask, which is why OET’s Test Regulations place the obligation on you rather than on any third party: not all delivery dates and testing modes are available in all countries, and you are told to check the test mode, profession, country and venue availability on the OET website before booking.

A static list cannot carry those four variables. A city that appears on a coaching site’s centre table may have a paper venue that opens twice a month for two professions, a computer venue that runs most weekdays for all twelve, or nothing at all in the month you need. Treat any third-party centre table as background, and the search result as the answer.

Search before you commit to leave, travel or coaching. The window for booking your test date closes 24 days before a paper date and seven days before a computer date, so a late discovery cannot be fixed by booking sooner.

Prometric runs the paper venues in India, and the computer mode’s written sub-tests sit at Prometric venues too

Prometric’s OET page states that the OET Test on Paper is available at Prometric venues in India, while other venues around the world are booked through the OET website, and that the computer mode places Listening, Reading and Writing at a Prometric venue.

So the venue you walk into is a Prometric test centre rather than an OET building, and two things follow. Your booking confirmation carries a Prometric confirmation number, which OET’s test day page tells computer candidates to bring. And Prometric publishes a test centre closures list, updated daily and organised by Test Center ID, covering closures caused by weather, power, technical faults and similar events. Your confirmation email names your Test Center ID, and Prometric asks candidates to monitor email and mobile notifications for changes, so checking that list the day before a long trip costs nothing.

Your delivery mode and profession narrow the venue list more than your city does

The stronger filters sit away from geography, and OET publishes them in its date tables.

Read the third row before you search. A physiotherapist in a city with only a paper venue has roughly one date a month rather than one a fortnight, and a dietitian or an optometrist has no paper option listed at all, which turns a venue question into a mode question. Our comparison of which OET format to book sets out what each mode asks of you.

Four paper dates are still bookable in 2026, and two of them are open only to nurses and doctors

Because paper dates are set nationally rather than by venue, you can see the whole remaining year at once. The table below lists the four global paper dates still bookable in 2026, with the booking window OET published for each, taken from its booking page on 25 September 2026.

Two readings matter for venue planning. A dentist, a pharmacist, a physiotherapist or a vet has two bookable paper dates left in the year, on 7 November and 5 December, so venue choice for them is really date choice. And a candidate who finds a venue but no suitable date has the computer mode as the faster alternative, since it closes seven days ahead rather than 24, subject to the published-window caveat above.

Search interest in the OET runs highest in five states and union territories, with Kerala at nearly double the next

Venue pressure is not evenly spread across India, and the clearest public signal of where candidates are is search interest. We checked Google Trends for India on 25 September 2026, for the term oet exam over the previous twelve months.

State or union territorySearch index, 100 = highestRank of 18 subregions
Kerala1001
Punjab542
Chandigarh483
Tamil Nadu274
Telangana245

Source: Google Trends, interest by subregion, India, oet exam, past 12 months, checked 25 September 2026. Trends publishes a relative index of search interest, not searches, candidates or venue capacity. City-level data was checked for Kerala and returned too little volume to rank.

Kerala’s index is nearly double Punjab’s and close to four times Tamil Nadu’s. Trends normalises each region against its own search volume, so that tells you where the OET makes up the largest share of local searching rather than where the most candidates are, and nothing at all about how many seats exist. On the same day, Trends listed Occupational English Test, OET, Pharmacist and Dentistry as breakout rising topics. Pharmacist and Dentistry both map to professions on the paper list, so neither rise says anything about pressure on a particular mode.

The venue, not OET, sends your timetable, and it can arrive 48 hours before the test

Booking confirms your date, not your reporting time. OET’s Test Regulations are explicit for the paper mode: you must arrive in accordance with the timetable specified by your venue, and OET states you will receive that timetable no later than 48 hours before test day. The regulations add one provision, inside the section on approving special testing arrangements: where travel plans require you to arrive at or leave the venue at a specific time, OET will endeavour to schedule your Speaking timeslot to suit you, without guaranteeing it.

For the computer mode the shape differs. The regulations set arrival at least 30 minutes before the Listening, Reading and Writing start time, and the Speaking sub-test runs separately on OET’s Speaking platform. A candidate travelling to a venue city should therefore plan around one venue day plus a separate Speaking session at home, rather than a single trip that covers everything.

The gap between booking and timetable is why slot questions recur. One candidate on Reddit in July 2026, planning to sit at the Mumbai centre, asked whether the 8am or the 12pm slot made any difference and whether Speaking runs on a separate day or can be scheduled alongside the written sub-tests. The answer depends on the mode. On paper the venue sets the day’s schedule and sends the timetable; on computer, OET’s regulations let candidates select from the available start times and days in a test administration, and Speaking runs at home on OET’s Speaking Platform up to five days before or after the written sub-tests.

The venue supplies the equipment, and the list of what you may carry in is short

What you carry through the door differs by mode, and OET’s test day information page lists it plainly.

ModeWhat you bring to the venue
OET on PaperValid ID, non-mechanical pens and 2B pencils, an eraser, a sharpener, all in a clear holder, and a clear plastic bottle of water
OET on Computer at a venueValid ID, your Prometric confirmation number and a clear plastic bottle of water

Source: OET test day information, read 25 September 2026.

The venue supplies the rest. Listening is taken with noise-cancelling headphones provided at the centre in both venue modes, and on paper, OET’s page for that mode adds that Speaking happens face to face in a private room. On computer, OET’s test day guide describes a locker issued at check-in for your phone and belongings, no access to that locker once the test starts, and a fresh security check if you leave the room, with no extra time given.

Identity rules decide more venue days than anything else, and they differ by mode. On paper you may present a passport or a national ID issued where you are sitting; for computer at a venue OET lists a passport, and a national ID that is not in English needs a certified translation alongside the original. A driving licence is never accepted. The ID you present must be the one on the booking, and OET states that without correct ID you will not be able to take the test and may not be entitled to a deferral or refund. The full sequence is in our guide to how to book the OET.

Three routes open up when your city has no venue on your date

The search returning nothing useful is a common outcome outside the big metros, and each route has a different cost.

Travel to the nearest venue city. OET publishes the same AU$587 full-test fee for all three modes, so travel and a night’s stay are the main extra cost, which our breakdown of the OET test fee sets against the reschedule and cancellation charges.

Switch to the computer mode. It serves all 12 professions, closes only seven days ahead, and in the window OET had published ran on most weekdays, which often solves a date problem without solving a distance problem, since the venue is still a Prometric centre.

Check whether OET@Home is open to you. OET offers it where a country has no test venue or where you have access needs, so most candidates in India will not qualify, and OET adds that not all regulators accept it.

Whichever route you take, confirm that the profession version you need appears on that date before you book travel.

City guides answer the last mile that a national page cannot

A national page can tell you how availability works. It cannot tell you which side of a city the venue sits on, how long the security queue runs, or what nurses from that city wish they had known. For readers sitting in Karnataka, our nurse’s guide to OET exam centres in Bangalore covers what to weigh before booking a centre there and what test day looks like.

Preparation is a separate question from venue choice: the venue is chosen from OET’s search, while structured OET preparation in Chennai happens at our Egmore centre before the date you booked.

Frequently asked questions

Which cities in India have OET exam centers?

OET does not publish a standing list of Indian venues. The venues that exist on your date appear in OET’s book a test search once you enter your city and country, and they change with the test mode and the profession version you need. Prometric operates the Indian venues for both the paper and the computer modes.

How do I find the OET test centre nearest me?

Use OET’s book a test search, enter your location, and work through the dates and modes it returns. Check the profession list attached to the date before you decide, because half the 2026 paper dates are open only to Nursing and Medicine.

Are OET paper and computer venues the same places in India?

Prometric states that the paper test runs at its venues in India, and that the computer mode’s written sub-tests are taken at a Prometric venue. The difference is inside: on paper you write on printed materials and sit Speaking face to face at the centre, while on computer the written sub-tests are on screen and Speaking is usually taken at home on a separate day.

Is the OET fee higher in some cities?

No. OET publishes one fee for the full test in India, whichever mode or city you choose. Travel and accommodation are the only costs that change with distance.

What if there is no OET venue in my city?

You can travel to the nearest venue city, switch to the computer mode, which serves all 12 professions and closes only seven days ahead, or check whether OET@Home applies to you. OET offers the at-home mode where a country has no venue or where you have access needs, so it rarely applies in India.

When will I know my reporting time at the venue?

For OET on Paper, OET states you receive the venue timetable no later than 48 hours before test day, and you must arrive in line with it. For OET on Computer you arrive at least 30 minutes before the Listening, Reading and Writing start time.

What can I take into an OET venue?

For paper: valid ID, non-mechanical pens, 2B pencils, an eraser and sharpener in a clear holder, and a clear plastic bottle of water. For computer at a venue: valid ID, your Prometric confirmation number and a clear plastic bottle of water. Phones and bags go into a locker on computer, or the venue cloakroom on paper.

Can my test centre close at short notice?

It can. Prometric publishes a closures list, updated daily and organised by Test Center ID, covering events such as weather, power failures and technical faults, and Prometric asks candidates to monitor their email and mobile notifications for changes to the appointment.

Does the venue affect my score?

No. OET states that all delivery modes use the same test format and specifications and are marked to the same standard, so the venue changes your logistics rather than your result.

Should I choose a venue near my coaching centre?

No. Coaching location has no bearing on venue availability, so choose the venue from OET’s search on dates and travel, and choose coaching on the teaching. If both sit in the same city, that is convenience rather than a requirement.
