A full OET booking costs AU$587. Converted at the European Central Bank reference rates for 18 September 2026, that is about ₹40,073 before your bank converts it. The same fee applies whether you sit OET on Paper or OET on Computer at an Indian venue.
The test fee is only the first line of the bill. Moving a date, asking for a remark or sitting again each carries its own charge, and one rule set by the regulators themselves decides whether a resit costs AU$315 or the full AU$587 again. OET, owned by Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment Unit Trust, sets all of these charges, and its regulations state that test dates, booking schedules, closing dates and fees are predetermined by OET.

OET charges AU$587 for the full test in India, whichever delivery mode you book
OET’s support article states that the full test, meaning the Occupational English Test in all four sub-tests of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, costs AU$587. The one exception is the United States, where OET on Computer at a venue and OET@Home cost US$455.
India sits in the rest-of-the-world line. OET’s third-party payments page lists AU$587 for OET on Paper, OET on Computer at a venue and OET@Home outside the United States, and the same figure appears on the paper and computer booking pages.
The OET Test Handbook makes OET@Home available only where no OET venue exists in your country or where you have access needs, so most candidates here choose between paper and computer at a venue. Because both cost the same, the choice comes down to dates and results: paper bookings close 24 days before the test and results for India arrive in as little as five days, while computer bookings close seven days before and results can arrive in as little as 48 hours. The AU$587 pays for the OET itself and nothing around it. It does not cover preparation, travel to the venue, a remark, a reschedule, your bank’s conversion charge, or anything your regulator charges for registration.
The rupee cost moves with the exchange rate and your card’s conversion fee
OET publishes the fee in Australian dollars, so unless the checkout shows rupees, an Indian card converts the payment. Two things set the final rupee amount: the rate your card network applies, and the fee your bank adds for a foreign currency transaction.
SBI Card’s published terms are a useful example. They list a 3.5 per cent foreign currency transaction fee on most cards, applied to the rupee amount after Visa or Mastercard converts it, using the network’s rate on the date the transaction settles, which may differ from the day you pay. On the reference-rate figure, 3.5 per cent adds about ₹1,403, taking AU$587 to roughly ₹41,475. Your own bank’s schedule of charges will show its figure.
At the ECB reference rates for 2 January 2026, AU$587 came to about ₹35,445. On 18 September it came to about ₹40,073, roughly ₹4,600 more, with no change at all to OET’s price. Any rupee number you read online is a snapshot of the rate on the day it was written.
Pay by the card with the lowest foreign currency fee you hold, and convert the fee yourself on the day you book rather than relying on a figure from months ago.
Rescheduling costs AU$120 before the booking deadline and AU$200 after it
Plans change, and OET’s standard charges depend on timing. Section 9.1 of the OET Test Regulations sets them out, while serious circumstances such as a traumatic event, a medical condition that prevents attendance or a bereavement go through a separate special consideration process covered further down.

The Speaking-only row is the one to remember. On OET on Computer or OET@Home, if Listening, Reading and Writing stay put and only Speaking moves within the same administration before the booking closing date, AU$30 is all it costs. After the closing date the same change costs AU$100.
A few changes cannot be made by rescheduling at all. You cannot switch delivery mode or profession, move a computer or home booking to another country, or reschedule any booking bought with a discount code or at a discounted price, in any mode. Those require a cancellation and a new booking, with the cancellation fee deducted from the refund. A rescheduled booking also cannot be reversed, and Speaking can be rescheduled only once.
Cancelling early returns AU$460 of the AU$587 fee, and a missed test usually returns nothing
Section 9.2 of the regulations sets a cancellation fee of AU$120 before the booking closing date and AU$200 after it. OET’s cancellation article adds that the AU$7 booking fee is not refunded and gives the result for a full test: AU$460 back if you cancel before the closing date, about ₹31,403 or 78 per cent, and AU$380 back after it, about ₹25,941 or 65 per cent. The refund goes to the card you booked with, within 7 to 10 business days.
The deadlines differ by mode. Paper bookings can be cancelled up to one week before test day, with no refund for a Friday test after 11:59pm the Saturday before, or for a Saturday test after 11:59pm the Sunday before. Computer and home bookings can be cancelled up to 48 hours before the start time, but not once any sub-test from that administration has been taken. Cancellations cover the whole booking and cannot be reversed.
Not attending is the expensive option. The regulations state that a candidate who does not show up is not eligible for a refund unless extenuating circumstances can be demonstrated, and give five business days to contact OET Support with evidence. If you know in advance that you cannot sit, cancelling early returns most of the fee.
Genuine emergencies have their own route. Section 9.4 offers special consideration for a traumatic event, a serious medical condition that prevents attendance, bereavement or significant personal hardship, and civil unrest or extreme weather. You apply before the test or within two calendar days after it, OET replies within seven working days, and an approved case may be offered a deferral or, in some cases, a full or partial refund.
A remark costs AU$120 per sub-test and comes back in full if your grade changes
The OET Re-marking Policy sets the fee at AU$120 per sub-test outside the United States, or US$95 inside it. The request has to be made within 72 hours of your results being released, according to the handbook, and once re-marking starts it cannot be reversed.
The refund rule is the part that makes a remark worth considering. If the re-marked grade changes, OET refunds the fee. If it does not, the fee is kept. Re-marking also provides no qualitative feedback, so it answers whether the grade was right rather than why it was given.
Remarking is the cost candidates talk about most. In our review of 200 cost-related threads posted between February and September 2026 on r/OETforECFMG, the busiest OET forum on Reddit, remarking came up in 113, or 57 per cent, ahead of rescheduling at 44. A recurring question in those threads is whether to request one at all.
One remark costs about a fifth of a full resit, since AU$120 is 20 per cent of AU$587. One caution from the policy: if you sit another test while a remark is in progress, OET will not refund that second test even if the remark later raises your grade. Where a single sub-test sits just below your regulator’s threshold, it often makes sense to remark first and book again only once the outcome is known. OET prices single sub-test resits from AU$315, and the NMC, Ahpra and CNO still ask for all four sub-tests
OET does sell a cheaper resit. Its support article lists one sub-test at AU$315, two at AU$415 and three at AU$515, each including OET’s AU$7 online booking fee. The option is available only for OET on Paper, at most venues outside the United States, and only after you have taken the full test once.
Whether that saving is usable is decided by the organisation assessing you, and OET’s regulations tell candidates to check first. For three regulators Indian nurses commonly apply to, the answer is the same.

So when a UK, Australian or Ontario application misses one sub-test, the testing fix is a second complete sitting, not a cheaper AU$315 top-up. Combining still saves money, because you do not need every grade in one sitting. The NMC accepts two full sittings taken within 12 months of each other, and its OET page sets the grades: between the two sittings, you reach grade B in reading, listening and speaking and C+ in writing, with no sub-test below C+ in either sitting except writing, where the floor is grade C. Reading has the largest share of grades below the NMC requirement among Indian test takers
OET publishes the share of grades awarded in each sub-test by nationality. The NMC asks for grade B in reading, listening and speaking and C+ in writing, which makes it a useful yardstick for where a second sitting is most likely to be needed.

Writing and Speaking are strengths: more than four in five Writing and Speaking grades awarded to Indian-nationality test takers met the NMC’s grades. Reading had the largest shortfall, with 68 per cent of 2025 Reading grades for Indian-nationality test takers below B. Since the NMC will not accept a single-sub-test resit, a Reading shortfall costs a full AU$587, which is why preparation aimed at Reading protects the most money. Three budgets show what an Indian nurse applying to the NMC should plan to spend
Putting the verified fees together gives a realistic range. These use the reference rate and exclude card fees and travel.

The gap between the first and fourth rows, about ₹48,000, is the real case for preparing well the first time. It is also why a remark is a reasonable gamble on a genuine near-miss and a poor one on a clear shortfall.
Employers and recruiters can pay the OET fee through OET’s third-party route
If a hospital or recruiter has offered to pay for your test, OET runs a formal route for it. Its group bookings and third-party payments page lets an organisation pay for one candidate or a group in a single transaction, by bank transfer or card, at the same AU$587 per candidate.
The timing is stricter than an individual booking. The application, candidate details and payment must reach OET 14 calendar days before the advertised test closing date. Paper candidates then complete a consent form, and computer or home candidates receive a voucher to finish the booking themselves. If an employer has offered to pay, ask early, because that deadline arrives well before your own.
IELTS is priced in rupees at ₹19,000, and OET is priced in Australian dollars
Google asks whether OET is cheaper than IELTS, and on headline price it is not. IDP IELTS India lists IELTS Academic and General Training at ₹19,000 at every Indian centre, whether you choose IELTS Writing on Paper or IELTS on Computer, with IELTS for UK Visas and Immigration at ₹19,250 and a One Skill Retake at ₹12,650. OET, at about ₹40,073, costs roughly 2.1 times as much before conversion fees.
A candidate who passes OET in one sitting spends about ₹40,073; one who needs two IELTS sittings spends ₹38,000. Acceptance matters more than either figure, and OET’s material is built around healthcare tasks such as case notes and patient consultations. OET’s official preparation starts free, and its paid courses cost AU$30 each
The cheapest preparation comes from the test owner. OET offers free sample tests for both OET on Paper and OET on Computer or OET@Home, which is the right place to measure yourself before spending anything.
OET’s self-paced online courses cost AU$30 each for Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking, about ₹2,048 apiece or ₹8,192 for all four. The online OET course costs less than half of one extra sitting
Self-study suits some candidates and not others, particularly those working rotating shifts or aiming at a regulator with high Reading and Listening thresholds. The useful comparison is not the course against nothing, but the course against a second AU$587 sitting.

Every OET price on this page is quoted in the currency OET publishes it in and was read on 21 September 2026 from OET’s support article, test regulations, remarking policy and third-party payments page.
Rupee figures are conversions, not OET prices. The European Central Bank publishes euro reference rates but no direct Australian dollar to rupee rate, so we divided its 18 September 2026 rupee rate of 109.8755 per euro by its Australian dollar rate of 1.6095 per euro, giving about ₹68.27 per Australian dollar. Your card will use its network’s rate on the settlement date and add its own fee, so treat our rupee figures as a guide and redo the sum on the day you pay.
Grade shares come from OET’s own 2025 demographic PDF, which reports shares of grades awarded by self-reported nationality for groups with 100 or more candidates.
